Meet Me In A Minute: Huma Abdulaziz

Meet Me In A Minute: Huma Abdulaziz

You may not be able to spot her through a crowd; she’s described as small, shy, and quiet. However, she has a big heart for many things. Senior Huma Abdulaziz can be described as passionate for many things like music and writing.

“My friends call me friendly, hardworking, and quiet at first but I open up later. I need to get comfortable first before I can open up,” Abdulaziz said.

Abdulaziz’s friends has come to know who she really is- someone who is caring and passionate.

“I met Huma freshman year, but we didn’t really get to know each other until sophomore year. She’s been such a good friend all these years. It feels like I’ve known her forever. She’s funny and helpful and can always cheer me up when I feel kinda crappy. I’m glad I have a friend like her,” good friend and senior Hameenah Williams said.

Born and raised in Illinois from June 16, 1995 till now, Abdulaziz has been living a normal life. Going from Lincoln Junior High to Niles West High school, she’s had a couple of role models to look up to. Abdulaziz is the youngest in her family; she has three older sisters, two of them who are around their 30’s. They are all married and are currently involved in their own families. Abdulaziz has had three women in her life she can look up too all her life, but she is more independent today.

“It was like having three moms. They’ve helped me but since they’re married now, they have their own lives to take care of. I can say now I’ve become more independent” Abdulaziz said.

In elementary to middle school, Abdulaziz played the piano which most people don’t know about her. It was only a couple of years and then she stopped. There wasn’t really a reason, but she still really likes music. She has always dreamed of playing the guitar which she never got around to.

Being in GAW last year and AP Lit this year, Abdulaziz found an interest in writing after taking these classes. For her, she has control over everything when she’s writing. She’s dreams of writing her own book one day, preferably a fantasy novel.

“I think I’m good at [writing] because it’s more like freestyle with different techniques, and I’m definitely not a math person!” Abdulaziz said.

With her last year at Niles West coming to an end in the spring, Abdulaziz joined Relay For Life to end senior year right. She is looking into Depaul, Northeastern, and Dominican University to continue her life for the next four years. She decided she would major in English.

“In ten years I see myself with a job and married of course. I would also want to work at a library as a supervisor of some sort,” Abdulaziz said.
