Breaking News: Student Charged with Felony After Internet Threat

A Niles West student has been charged with felony disorderly conduct after making a threat against District 219 on the internet, according to a statement principal Jason Ness released today.

The Skokie Police Department notified District 219 of the threat last night.

” The student was acting alone and we do not believe that there is any threat to the building,” Ness said in the statement.

In a phone interview, Ness said safety is the main priority in the school.

“Any threat we have we take seriously,” Ness said. “We investigate to the fullest extent. You can’t walk through an airport [making threats], without getting consequences, it’s the same in a school environment. In this day and age, we have to think about the words and what we’re saying.”

Although Ness could not confirm if the threat was made via Facebook or another social media site, he said according to the police report the threat was “liked and shared.”

This is the second time this year that threat-related charges have been brought against a Niles West student. In February, Sam Breitberg, who was a senior, was arrested for making bomb threats against the school.
