Elective Fair to be Held Tomorrow

Students learn about DECA from AS&T teacher Eric Lueder during last years elective fair.
Students learn about DECA from AS&T teacher Eric Lueder during last year’s elective fair.

The annual elective fair is scheduled  for tomorrow in the cafeteria during lunch periods.

“It’s been going on for about eight or nine years now. It used to be in the halls, then it moved to the student commons, and now it’s in the cafeteria,” said the secretary of applied sciences and technology Cindy Tado.

Tado works with the director of applied sciences, Chris Powell, to organize the elective fair.

The purpose is to show students the different classes that are available to them aside from the core courses.

Sophomore Delanie Kwiecinski remembers her experience at the fair last year, where her interests in cooking and child development began.  “I went to a small private school, so I didn’t really know what electives were. [The fair] helped me to see all the different electives we had.”

Kwiecinski admitted that the fair does prove to be more helpful to freshman than upperclassmen, since the freshman are new to the school.

This year, the fair will be hosting 12 tables ranging from areas of interest including computer science, Chinese, debate, newspaper, and broadcasting, to name a few.

Tado said that in past years, the fair has been very successful.

“We’re trying to get students involved… it gives the kids an idea of what to expect,” she said.
