Fall Band Concert to be Held Tomorrow

Fall Band Concert to be Held Tomorrow

Students involved in all sections of the band program will perform Thursday, Oct. 16 at 7:30 p.m. at the annual fall band concert held in the auditorium.

The students practice every day for the concert, occasionally having rehearsal after school, according to band director Justin Johnson.

“Fall concerts are always the first of the year, so the music is usually very loud and aggressive,” said senior Carlos Maxwell, a percussionist. “It helps to kick off the year with a bang. This concert follows that trend, but there’s some variation. The song Sheltering Sky is more of a ballad piece.”

Senior Alex Rivera, who plays trumpet, said he is looking forward to the variety of music during the show.

“One song is lyrical and calm, one is an energetic dance, and one is a fanfare or a march. You have to put different feeling and emotion into each song,” he said.

Johnson said that music is the one thing we all have in common.

“Music influences everyone,” he said. “These students, however, get the chance to play music and create sounds on their own, and that allows for so much more.”
