Homecoming: The Dance and The Royalty

Homecoming: The Dance and The Royalty

School has  just started but already everybody is gearing up for Homecoming week. The theme for this year’s homecoming is “A Hero’s Homecoming.,” and will take place on Saturday, Sep. 13 at 7:30 pm. It is a superhero theme, as the slogan suggests. Most of the usual things will be present at the dance, and the school is working out the details for decorations with Boom! Entertainment.

Student Activities Director Katie Odell is very excited about the theme for the dance this year. “I feel like in the media, superheroes are being brought back. I also believe students can do a lot with the theme, more so than last year’s Big Top theme.”

The theme was decided by the Homecoming Committee, which involves students from every class. If you are interested in joining the committee for next year to help decide the theme of the dance, you can join at the end of the year.

Senior Lily Pashup believes the theme is better than last year because people can easily dress up for the theme.

“I mean, it sounds really fun and I‘d love to go, but I can’t. We have enough school spirit for everyone to go along with the theme. I think everyone will have a good time,” said Pashup.

Sophomore Stevie Fernandez disagrees, feeling the theme is not the best. “I feel like it’s a little bit unoriginal because everyone does superheroes at some point, but last years theme was cool.”

Registration forms are now available online. Non-West Guest Forms are due to Miss A in the Student Activities Office by Friday, Aug. 29. This is a very strict deadline and must be met in order for the school to review the guests attending the dance.

Online registration is mandatory for the homecoming dance. After you register, print the receipt. Tickets for the dance go on sale Friday, Sep. 5. You must present your online registration and your student ID when you go to buy tickets for the dance. When you go to the dance, you have to present your ticket and your student ID. The name on your student ID must match the name on your online registration form.

With a dance we must have a court, with a Homecoming King and Queen. Only seniors can be nominated, but forms have already been passed out to students. If you need an extra form, you can find one in the Student Activities office by the Student Commons or the student activities website. Nomination forms are due this Monday, Sep. 5. This is a strict deadline because the elections need to be held.

For the election, students will receive ballots in their home rooms starting Wednesday, Aug. 27. There can be no promotion of Homecoming King or Queen such as posters in the school hallways. The coronation will be on Tuesday, Sep. 9.
