Literacy Center Celebration to be held Wednesday

Literacy+Center+Celebration+to+be+held+Wednesday

The annual Literacy Center Celebration will be held this Wednesday, May 3 in the Literacy Center beginning after school at 3:30 p.m.

All year long, the Lit Center tutors work hard to help other students with schoolwork in any subject they need. This celebration is for the recognition of very deserving tutors for their contributions to the school community throughout the year.

“The purpose of this event is to celebrate and thank our tutors for all of their amazing hard work and dedication throughout the entire school year,” Literacy Center clerk Tamar Boghossian said.

This year, instead of giving out many different awards to tutors, there will only be one given out: the Tutor of the Year award.

This year’s recipient of the Tutor of the Year award is senior Gabriela Tellez, who is happy to be receiving the award.

“I was very shocked but excited when I found out that I won this award. I have been a tutor in the lit center since sophomore year. I feel very honored to have been chosen out of all the wonderful tutors,” Tellez said.

Being a Lit Center tutor not only benefits the person that is receiving the help, but it also means a lot to the tutors themselves.

“The Lit Center has greatly impacted my life. It was where I went for help as a freshman. When I became a tutor, I got the opportunity to feel how rewarding it is to help others learn and succeed,” Tellez said.

Other Lit Center tutors feel this event is a great way to end the year.

“Being a tutor is not always easy, but the feeling you get after helping a student is priceless. This event is really great because it gives the awesome tutors here at West a chance to be recognized for their hard work,” junior tutor Jennifer Si said. “Deciding to become a tutor this year is something I don’t regret because I get the chance to see good people use their knowledge for good.”

This event is not open to the public — it is specifically for the Lit Center tutors. Be sure to thank any tutors you may know for their continued dedication to making this school a better and more welcoming place.
