It’s “music’s biggest night.” Artists from all across America look forward and depend on this one night. Being nominated is an honor but winning is an even bigger thrill. This year the 65th annual Grammy awards were highly broadcasted and fans raved about it all over social media. It was unforgettable and certainly not disappointing.

The night started off with an incredible performance by the queen herself, Beyonce. Her husband Jay-Z joined her on stage later which only made the performance even better. The couple did a fantastic job of performing live, which some artists can’t master. It made for an incredible kick off to the awards. All hail the queen.

Pharell Williams took the stage to announce the first award of the night. Twitter was buzzing with his interesting attire. I personally thought he nailed the Smokey Bear look.

Katy Perry was one who definitely did not disappoint. Her chilling performance of Dark horse was riveting. I felt like I was immersed in sleepy hollow. Not to mention Pink’s acrobatic and aerodynamic solo.

There was plenty of commotion about Robin Thicke’s repeated performance of Blurred Lines. However, I look at it as Thicke’s chance to finally perform the song without any Miley interruptions. No one will ever forget what happened last year at the Grammys, and this was Thicke’s last chance to perform his song in front of the world before it’s not a best seller anymore.

My favorite performance of the night was when Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr took the stage. Reflecting back on legends and people who have impacted the music world tremendously is what the Grammys are all about. The Beatles changed music as we know it, and America wouldn’t be the same without them.

On the other hand, the popular Taylor Swift left with no awards tonight. Her interesting dancing and hair flipping didn’t go unnoticed, but her performance was not on my favorite list.

Lorde won two awards, but her stage presence and attitude were criticized by many. Royals deserved the awards, but gratitude can never be overdone.

Another disappointing performance was the country music aspect of the night. I have nothing against country music, I am quite a fan, but that performance was just sad. Blake Shelton tried to brighten up the room, but it became awkwardly and painfully obvious that this performance was not successful. However, despite what many say, country music is just as important to the Grammys as any other genre of music. The Grammys are about every single genre and category of music. There is no question that country music isn’t underappreciated. The heart throbs like Hunter Hayes keep country alive, but many don’t value the true meaning behind country music.

The purpose of the Grammys is to celebrate music and the power it has on the world. Without music nobody would succeed. It guides us through our lives and reveals the happy times and the hard times. The real beauty of music isn’t how many awards an album has won, but rather the memories we create with the soundtracks of the decades.
