The Niles West News had a chance to sit down with boys varsity tennis coach Andrew Suarez to discuss their goals and expectations for the upcoming season.

NWN: How does the team look this year?

Suarez: We lost six seniors last year with two of them being varsity starters since their freshman years, so this year will be a rebuilding year.

NWN:  How does this year compare to previous years?

Suarez: I think that in previous years we have been very top heavy, which means that the top four starters are extremely good and then in levels out.  This year it seems as though the overall team is pretty balanced.

NWN: What are some strengths and weaknesses of the team?

Suarez: I think that the balance of the team makes us deep through the lineup and gives us the option to be very versatile. As for weaknesses, the top doubles teams are going to have to play very well this year.

NWN: What are your goals for the upcoming season?

Suarez: For this upcoming season, our main goals are going to be improving daily and have to have fun while doing it.

NWN: Who are the key players we should be keeping an eye out for this year?

Suarez: Everyone on the team is important because every court that plays counts for the same amount of points.  Two players who are going to make our team better and deeper are senior Shawn Sabaricos and sophomore Uros Tubic.

NWN: Which match are you most excited for and why?

Suarez: I think that our match against Niles North will be very exciting since it’s the first time that we play them as CSL rivals, and the trophy is also at stake, and we want to keep it here at home.
The boy’s first game is on Tuesday, April 4 here at Niles West against Wheeling at 4:00 p.m.
