Boys Varsity Swimming Update

Boys+Varsity+Swimming+Update

As the regular is coming to a halt for the swim team, it’s time for the swimmers to get ready for conference play. As of right now, the varsity swim team sits with a record of 4-5, competing in one of the hardest conferences in the State.

Swimmers have been putting in lots of work at practice to help them improve their chances of placing against power house teams.

“With conference play coming up so soon, at practice we have been cutting down on distance work, trying to help swimmers improve their speed and be more comfortable when the time comes to compete,” varsity swim coach Daniel Vander Jeugdt said.

With upcoming events to look forward to towards the end of the season, Vander Juegdt is still proud of the years of accomplishments many have made.

“We looked at everyone as a team, and this year is a lifetime best for most of the swimmers when you look at where they started last year. We want all of our swimmers to just go out and just try their best. We will hopefully have a couple place in top 12 and that’s always great too,” Vander Juegdt said.

Seniors and four year team member Adam Orynczak, are looking forward to the closing of the season.

“We feel pumped up for the end of the year,” said Orynczak.

Captain Simon Villegas is also confident going into conference and with their preparation.

“We feel fast going into conference, we’ve been doing a lot of power practice and race pace and that was new this year. We feel excited,” Villegas.

Tomorrow is the senior night meet against New Trier at 5:30 pm Friday, Feb. 5. This is the last meet before they go into conference play, so go out and support your seniors and wish them luck as they go into conference.

“We feel fast going into conference, we’ve been doing a lot of power practice and race pace and that was new this year. We feel excited” Simon Villegas
