Kevin Sanchez: The Under-Recognized Soccer Star

Kevin Sanchez: The Under-Recognized Soccer Star

You might know Kevin Sanchez as an average Sophomore, but there is more than what meets the eye. What many students are not aware of are his amazing soccer accomplishments at such a young age.

“Growing up I played defense, I had the same coach as my uncle and I’ve been playing ever since i was 3 years old. I got into the sport and was instantly hooked– I’ve been playing it ever since.”

Sanchez has been playing varsity soccer since his freshmen year and is one of the most dedicated/hardworking soccer players on the Niles West Boys Varsity team.

“I worked hard to be where I am at right now, practiced hard and put in work over the summer–it definitely helped. I came in to the stadium and worked on my footwork and did lots of drills. It was a lot of work but it was definitely worth it because I was put on varsity. And once I told all my family about it, they were jumping of joy because they were so excited,” Sanchez added.

Not only was Sanchez put on varsity, but he also made all conference his sophomore year.

“Getting all conference was my biggest achievement yet. I was so proud of myself and all the hard work that I put in, but in all honesty, it only motivated me to do better in the future and strive for bigger goals,” he said.

Best friend and sophomore Michael Gunartt also had some great things to add about Sanchez.

“Im so proud of Kev and all his accomplishments. I understand how hard he worked for his title because being in a Varsity sport is quite difficult. But not only did Kevin start all year, he also made all conference and I think not many people give him enough credit for his hard work.”
