Niles West to Host AP Information Night

Niles West to Host AP Information Night

AP information night is scheduled to be held Tuesday, Jan. 28 at 6:30 p.m. at the Niles West Auditorium.

The event is held to give students an idea of what to expect if they decide to enroll into an AP class and how different it is from regular and honors classes.

“The message we want to get across is that AP is not about getting the perfect 5 on the test,” said Assistant Principal of Student Services Antwan Babakhani. “It’s about going into the class to get an experience not like on in a regular or honors class. We want to start having conversations about it; that AP doors are opened for everyone not just students with straight A’s or those who are getting 4’s and 5’s on the AP test.”

Senior Mariya Kirichenko said that although AP classes are hard, they are important.

“It’s much harder than honors and regular classes but important because colleges look at you more and you are able to get a college credit after taking the test,” she said.

Senior Shan Khan agrees and gives reasoning to taking the classes.

“A benefit of taking the AP classes is getting the credit,” he said. “The main reason why people take the classes is so that they don’t have to take that course in college. That or they have a genuine interest in the subject.”
