What Accessories You Should be Wearing this Season

Clothes are an important part of fashion, but they are nothing without accessories.  Here’s what you need to know about accessories for this fall:

I think everyone knows that scarves are no longer just for the outdoors. My advice is obviously to keep them both lightweight and in a breathable fabric.  If you’re going to wear a scarf indoors; cotton is my material of choice.

Here’s some surprising trivia about me– I’ve only had my ears pierced for five months. Yes, it seems strange, but by the time my mother was okay with the idea (when I was thirteen) I lost interest. The only reason my desire developed again was because I began to see them on the runway more and more. Not to mention the grunge and hipster scene has an overwhelming amount of piercings on ears.  I’m not proposing that everyone should go to Claire’s and get a bunch of piercings. In fact, I’m afraid to get my cartilage pierced, so I choose an alternative, for now: fake piercings.  I’m not talking about your grandma’s clasps, but magnets, small hoops that stick to the ear with an adjustable screw (it’s not nearly as frightening as it sounds), and ear cuffs are also widely available.

Currently, there seem to be two distinct and general categories when it comes to earrings, the first being small studs. You may be thinking, well duh, they’ve been around forever, but this time it’s different because now they’re being worn mismatched and in more plentiful groupings (again, going back to the idea of having a few or more piercings on one ear).  This trend is more present on the street style scene, as opposed to high-fashion runways. The other direction that earrings are going into is a complete opposite one–long and large earrings decked out in jewels, flowers, and pearls. If this idea sounds unappealing to you, think again, and look here. Yes, some of them seem outrageous, but they’re statement pieces.

Just as earrings aren’t going solo, neither are rings lately.  Ever heard of the cocktail ring? I used to be obsessed with them, believing that large, extravagant rings (and possibly even multiple on one hand) were the way to go. Now, as trends change, so do my rings. This summer, I transitioned to small, silver rings and wore multiple on each hand.

Silver jewelry, in general, is on trend. Sleek and silver cuffs are definitely trending at the moment.

A long, long time ago, a blogger named Leandra Medine, a.k.a. the Man Repeller (manrepeller.com) adopted the term “arm party” when describing the copious amount of bracelets and cuffs she had on one arm. Since then, it’s been hard for me to limit myself to just one bracelet per arm, and why should I? Having multiple is more fun and makes more of a statement. I don’t know if Leandra was the first to use this term, but she is definitely a fan of it. Click this and this to see exactly what I’m talking about, and for some fun and easy D.I.Y. bracelets, go here. Personally, I’ve had a great and easy experience with the ones I’ve tried from this blog.

On to necklaces. Longer necklaces are in style. Moreover, necklaces with pendants look very charming and can be worn with many types of outfits. Both silver and gold work, but the important thing is to make sure that they’re not chunky.

As for stones, they’re not of much importance. Now that it’s fall, however, people tend to lean towards darker colors when it comes to… well, everything.

Trying new accessories is not difficult; they’re typically small, so they don’t make a big change to your look, but they’re appreciated when noticed by the right people. If you’re looking for something to spice up your wardrobe but don’t exactly have enough money, the right accessory can do wonders.
